Choosing the moment to ask for notifications
Android asks people before an app may notify them. Why Verus waits until after registration to ask, rather than asking on first launch.
What I tried
Recent Android versions keep notifications off until an app asks. The first Android build of Verus declared the need without asking.
Why I chose differently
The real question was when to ask. A prompt in front of someone who has not yet seen the app tends to be declined. A no is much harder to undo than a question not yet asked.
What I chose
Verus asks once registration is done, when the reason is obvious. I checked it on a handset from a clean install through to a notification arriving.
The principle
Ask for a permission once the person can see why.
