Measuring what the microphone hears, not what the pipeline reports
Why Verus on the Mac takes a different audio path from the iPhone, found by measuring the sound itself rather than trusting the counters.
What I tried
A change to calls switched on one of Apple's audio features for Mac calls. Every counter reported a healthy microphone.
Why I chose differently
I measured the sound itself rather than the counters. On the Mac that feature hands back silence that looks perfectly healthy further along.
What I chose
Verus on the Mac takes its own audio path. Test builds show the live input level so the signal is always visible. I also tested the obvious alternative explanation and ruled it out first.
The principle
Measure the signal, not the plumbing.
