Verus Louis-James Davis

Pairing a new device without losing a single chat

Linking a device used to start it empty. I made Verus pairing carry chats, contacts and groups across, sealed inside the pairing itself.

What I tried

The first version of pairing shared an identity with the new device, not a history. People expect their conversations on both.

Why I chose differently

Device linking was built to share keys. Carrying chats, contacts and groups was the natural next step.

What I chose

Pairing now carries chats, contacts and groups across inside the same encrypted exchange. The receiving device keeps what it already had. I took a backup first, then paired for real: every message, contact and group arrived and the Mac lost nothing.

The principle

Test a migration on the device you would least like to lose, with a backup taken first.
