Verus Louis-James Davis

Verus shows what it carries, live, without showing who

The verusapp.co.uk homepage now shows a live running total of message deliveries to devices, updating as it happens, using totals only.

What I tried

A messaging service can prove it is in use by publishing figures, but most such figures are built from records of who talked to whom.

Why I chose differently

Verus is designed to keep no such record, so any public figure had to come from totals that never existed per person.

What I chose

The homepage reads a running total of every message delivered to a device, updating every few seconds while it is on screen, with today's count underneath. Every visitor shares one answer from the server, so the figure costs the same however many people are watching.

The principle

You can be open about scale without being open about people. Count the totals and never build the list.
