A setup guide for people hosting a Verus Relay

A public page that takes somebody from an unopened Verus Relay box to a working relay in six steps, with no settings and no passwords.

What I tried

The first Verus Relay boxes are going to people's homes. A relay box has no screen, so the app's usual route of scanning a code shown on the device does not apply.

Why I chose differently

The person receiving a box should be able to set it up alone, in minutes, without touching a router or a computer.

What I chose

Each box now comes with a card carrying its own Verus address. Scanning it adds the relay as a contact and the relay messages its new owner. Ownership is approved with a passport-level identity check in Confrmo, after the owner has matched a check code on both screens. The guide walks through exactly that, with what the phone will show at each step.

How it helped my other work

Confrmo: relay ownership is a real use of its passport-level check, tying every relay on the network to a verified person.

The principle

When a device has no screen, make the phone the screen and the person's identity the key.
