The websites Louis-James Davis

Giving every essay its own identity on a custom WordPress route

Why each essay on this site carries its own canonical address and metadata, rather than inheriting the homepage's.

What I tried

I publish essays from the theme itself, each on its own address so it can rank and be shared alone. The first version let them share the site's standard head.

Why I chose differently

WordPress reads a custom route as the front page, so a shared head told search engines each essay was the homepage.

What I chose

I gave every custom route a complete head of its own and let the homepage's blocks step aside. Then I checked every rendered page for exactly one canonical address.

The principle

How WordPress routed a request and what the visitor sees are different questions. Answer the second one.
